This group organisers, Anne and Liz have planned a programme of monthly visits to Galleries for 2026. The group usually meets monthly on a Tuesday at 11.00 to visit a gallery and then follow it with a coffee or light lunch.

The Tapestry of Renfrewshire, celebrating the people, stories and heritage of the area, will be on display at The Art Department on Causeyside Street from until 20th June, 10.00am-4.00pm Tuesday to Saturday.  Designed by internationally renowned artist Andrew Crummy, the exhibition features seven large-scale, hand-stitched panels created by community groups and volunteers from across Renfrewshire. Tapestry of Renfrewshire

A visit to the National Trust for Scotland property Holmwood House in Netherlee Road, Glasgow.
"Holmwood, located in the Southside of Glasgow, was masterfully designed by Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson for James Couper, a paper magnate, and his wife in 1857–8. This architectural gem is widely recognised as Thomson’s most exceptional domestic creation, showcasing his incredible design legacy." (extract from the NTS website)
Please contact Anne or Liz if you need or can offer a lift as Holmwood is not on a convenient transport link. 
The entry price is £10.00 for an adult, £7.50 concession and is free for NTS members. There is a cafe on site as well as pleasant riverside grounds.

We will be visiting Perth Art Gallery for the Scottish Colourists Revealed exhibition, featuring four iconic artists - Cadell, Fergusson, Hunter and Peploe - who transformed early 20th century British art through their love of colour and light. During their lifetime, the Colourists developed an international reputation, exhibiting in Paris, London and New York as well as in Scotland. Some of the paintings in the exhibition have never been displayed in public before.
Please take note: According to the website booking is essential so, if you think it's something you won't want to miss, it might be worth booking sooner rather than later.  There is no timed entry, so it's just a case of booking a ticket for the day.  The entry price, which includes a £1.00 booking fee, is £7.00 for an adult, £5.50 concession.

Wearing Japan: A Visual History of Kimono showcases more than thirty kimonos and accessories, looking at the story of women's kimonos, how they have been made and how they have changed over the last 100 years or so.  The exhibition runs until 6th August, 10.00am-1.00pm and 2.00pm-5.00pm Tuesday to Saturday at the Auld Kirk Museum, Cowgate, Kirkintilloch G66 1HN.Auld Kirk Museum

Gwen John: Strange Beauties, National Galleries of Scotland Modern Two, Edinburgh
There is currently a documentary about Gwen John - Keep the World Away - Finding Gwen John - on BBC iPlayer.  It is excellent and good for background in advance of our visit.  It is available for another nine months, so you may wish to watch it nearer the time.

May 2026Several members of the group had a very enjoyable outing to Paisley Art Institute's 137th Annual Exhibition at the Glasgow Art Club. With over 500 paintings on display, a wide variety of subjects and styles were showcased. Lively debate took place regarding some of the paintings. We were also treated to a very interesting demonstration by Paisley artist.Exhibition Link
April 2026The group visited The Biba Story: 1964-75 at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh.
"The exhibition explores the history of Biba, from the first simple shift dresses, to the glamorous devoré wraps, sequinned bodices, leopard print coats, trouser suits, floppy hats and feather boas that came to epitomise the Biba look." (extract from the Dovecote website)

March 2026An outing to the Lillie Gallery in Milngavie by ten members to view the exhibitions An Eye on the Street by David Peat, Iona With Love by Barbara Sellars and She who figures, a small display of items by women artists. February 2026The group met in the Paisley Art Department.
December 2025Paisley Art Deco 2025Our year ended with a visit to the Art Department in Causeyside Street, Paisley. This time to see an Art Deco exhibition that explores the Art Deco movement from when it first started in the early twentieth century. Andy Goldsworthy - Wool Runner
A visit to the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh for the Andy Goldsworthy | 50 Years exhibition.
"Goldsworthy is internationally recognised for his work with natural materials such as clay, stones, reeds, branches, leaves, snow and ice. Over 50 years, he has created a unique and highly influential body of work that speaks of our relationship with the land." (extract from the exhibition description)

Glasgow Heritage Walk-Historical Scultptures
As part of the Glasgow 850 celebrations, the group did an Architectural Sculpture Heritage walking tour, guided by Hildegarde Berwick of the Glasgow South u3a. It focused on the sculptural element of historic buildings in the Sauchiehall Street area.
August 2025We travelled to Rozelle Estate on the south side of Ayr to see two exhibitions entitled New Symbolism in the MacLaurin gallery. These celebrate works by our very own John Byrne and Frank McNab.
Also featured inside Rozelle House, was Alexander Goudie’s famous depictions of Rabbie Burn’s poem Tam O’Shanter.

May 2025Jupiter Artland VisitOur group made a visit in late May to the award-winning Jupiter Artland sculpture park in Edinburgh. It is part of the Bonnington House estate which from 1999 has been developed by Robert Wilson (current Chair of Creative Scotland) and Nicky Wilson. We walked through the woodlands to discover a great variety of art works from artists such as Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Jim Lambie and Cornelia Parker, to name a few. There were also lovely gardens to explore in the sunshine.

May 2025This was an additional offering that was of interest to people in the group. The ninety minute Bet Low guided tour with Hildegarde Berwick, started outside the CCA in Sauchiehall St, via Blythswood Square and ended towards Charing X. Bet Low (28-12-1924 to 02-12-2007) was a Scottish figurative and landscape painter. She was notable as one of the Glasgow Girls, and as a co-founder of the Clyde Group.
April 2025We headed to Edinburgh and the Dovecot Studios. We have been there been before, but this time was to visit their new exhibition, The Scottish Colourists: Radical Perspectives. It showcased the Scottish Colourists in the context of their European contemporaries, and how they forged a new language of colour.The Scottish Colourists

Painting
The Glasgow School of Art’s Archives and Collections houses a rich resource for the study of art, design, architecture and art education. A dozen of us were given a tour of the Glasgow School of Art’s Archive, in the Whisky Bond building at Speirs Lock Creative Quarter in Glasgow. This artistic community holds all the Art School materials from 1845, and it can be accessed by everyone.

Berthe Morisot Painting
This was a joint meeting with Glasgow Southside u3a. Dorothy Parker presented her take on the life and work of Berthe Morisot, a French Impressionist artist. Dorothy is a retired BBC journalist and is so passionate about Berthe she has written a novel, The Angel of Incompleteness. It is part fact, part fiction about her subject, taking you back to Paris in 1871, This was an excellent talk about a great artist who worked and knew so many influential artists and lived through an incredible period in European history.
February 2025A visit to the Hunterian offered the opportunity to see works by Whistler and Mackintosh, Rembrandt and Rubens, the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists, as well as leading contemporary artists. We visited the Pastel Drawings exhibition with works by James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903) and also Digging in Another Time exhibiting works by Derek JarmanThe Hunterian 
February 2025Members of the group will attended a Van Gogh documentary Poets and Lovers at the Eastwood Theatre. The documentary was based on the recent Van Gogh exhibition at the National Gallery.
January 2025We began our 2025 programme with a visit to Glasgow Women’s library located near Bridgeton Railway station. We looked around the library and saw the exhibition by Kate Downie called Conversations with Joan. We were so well looked after by all staff and volunteers as soon as we stepped through the door. A great venue to visit at any time. 
December 2024A new display entitled No more sheep focusing on the Arran artwork of Scottish artist and Glasgow School of Art graduate Margot Sandeman was visited by members of the group in the Fragile Art gallery in Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. There was the opportunity to explore all the wonderful art and exhibits on display. Margot Sandeman
November 2024Our group enjoyed a social time by having lunch together in Paisley’s Pendulum restaurant. It’s always good to share ideas and catch up over delicious food.

October 2024We had a fun afternoon learning about Silk painting and creating a piece of our own to take home. Moira McLennaghan from the Scottish Silk Painters group in Milngavie spoke about the different types of silk painting and demonstrated several techniques. She guided us through the process with humour and patience. Our task was to trace a leaf and then replicate the pattern and colours on silk.

Big Art Exhibition
Paisley's very own Big Art exhibition was right in the heart of Paisley. It is run by Outspoken Arts and features over 500 artists with a staggering 1500 artworks in all mediums including paintings, photography, drawing, textile work, film and digital, and ceramics. We visit this show every year, and are still amazed at the quality of work being exhibited.
September 2024A visit to Edinburgh’s Modern Art 2 Gallery for the current Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in UK 1970 - 1990 exhibition.
This comprehensive exhibition, touring from Tate Britain, showcases feminist art that celebrates the women whose radial ideas reshaped British culture.

We visited the Maclaurin Art Gallery at Rozelle Park in Ayr. The gallery is featuring artworks by Scottish painter and printmaker, Barbara Rae.
July 2024A trip to Edinburgh to see Lavery on Location at the National Galleries of Scotland. Belfast-born John Lavery lived and worked in Glasgow along with the Glasgow Boys. In 1888 he painted ‘The State visit of Queen Victoria to the Glasgow International Exhibition'. This launched his career as a society painter.
June 2024A visit to 'Discovering Degas' at the Burrell Collection in Pollock Country Park. Professor Frances Fowle, Senior Trustee at the Sir William Burrell Trust remarked: “Degas’s work appealed to collectors like Sir William due to his skilful drawing, as well as his interest in portraying figures in movement. He was very modern in his approach, working in a variety of media, adopting unexpected viewpoints, and experimenting with bold colours and unusual light effects.”
