Interwar architecture in Renfrewshire

Event type: Meeting
Date: Thursday 3rd April 2025
Architect Fiona J Sinclair

We welcomed Conservation architect and historian, Fiona Sinclair, who highlighted several 1930s architectural gems on our doorsteps. Members really enjoyed Fiona Sinclair's presentation on Interwar architecture in Renfrewshire. We will be looking at many of the building she mentioned with a new perspective and interest in their architecture.

Fiona has remarked: “A surprising amount of construction took place in Renfrewshire during the two world wars.  Standout buildings included cinemas, department stores, factories and health facilities.

I will illustrate the wealth of buildings in Renfrewshire from this particular period of time, and highlight the achievements of some remarkable architects.”

Fiona has previously visited our u3a when she gave us a great talk on Paisley's tenements..
