'This year a number of our u3a members banded together for a coach trip to the beautiful city of Liverpool. We stayed at the lovely Maldron hotel which sits 400 metres from the Albert Docks and the vibrant city centre so was ideal for tourists like us.
There wasn't enough time to see everything Liverpool had to offer but we did our best trying out the free museums and art galleries, the included tour of the Beatles Experience and travelling on the iconic ferry across the Mersey. One of our group even entertained us by singing that famous song! Guess who? Some of us even travelled to Crosby beach to catch sight of the Anthony Gormley 'Another Place' installation of one hundred cast iron statutes in the sand.
Our trip out to Port Sunlight Village was an eye opener. Lord Lever's workforce must have thought they had gone to paradise. It is still a beautiful conservation area with lots of different architectural styles and plenty of green open spaces. Clearly a man who knew how to build a community and not just houses.
Chester is a very pretty walled small city trying hard to retain its long heritage. The sun shone bright as we walked the city walls, took the tour and visited the Roman museum.
Fun, chat, laughter and just being together made this a very memorable and happy trip. Here's to next year!
